Epson ColorWorks for nurseries & growers
Different varieties. Small batches. Your labels.
A new variety, a small production run or an order for a
particular retailer can all mean a different label.
Keeping pre-printed stock for every version soon becomes
complicated.
Epson ColorWorks colour label printing
gives nurseries, growers and horticultural suppliers a
way to produce labels on demand, combining branding,
plant information and variable details in one design.
- Print labels for individual varieties and shorter production runs
- Combine colour graphics, care information and product identifiers
- Adapt labels for pots, trays and packaging using suitable media

From the growing area to the retail display
Your labels may need to identify a crop internally,
help a retailer manage stock or give a customer useful
information about the plant they are buying.
Printing in-house lets you adapt the content for each
purpose while keeping a consistent design across your range.
Plant pot labels
Create adhesive labels with variety names, branding,
care guidance and product codes. Match the label
material and adhesive to the pot surface and the
conditions it will encounter.
Tray & batch identification
Identify varieties, production batches and customer
orders using clear text, barcodes and colour cues
within your existing workflow.
Seed, bulb & product packaging
Print product labels for packets, bags, boxes and
sleeves. Change the variety, pack size or customer
branding without ordering a separate print run.
Give every variety the information it needs
Different plants need different descriptions. A reusable
label template can keep your branding consistent while
allowing the product details to change.
-
Clear plant identification:
include botanical names, common names and variety details.
-
Useful care guidance:
add appropriate information about watering, position
and growing conditions.
-
Colour images and graphics:
show the plant or flower and use consistent icons
alongside written instructions.
-
Stock and product codes:
include identifiers and barcodes for your retail
or operational workflow.
-
Your own branding:
carry your nursery identity through to the finished
product.
-
Customer-specific designs:
adapt labels for wholesale orders, own-label ranges
and different pack formats.
A practical option for changing ranges
Commercial plant nurseries
Produce labels across multiple varieties and batch
sizes, with designs suited to your wholesale or
direct-to-customer products.
Specialist & independent growers
Label smaller runs, trial varieties and seasonal
collections without committing to large quantities
of every printed design.
Seed & bulb suppliers
Create labels for different varieties, pack quantities
and branded ranges using a consistent set of templates.
Print to match the batch
When a product description changes or a variety sells
in smaller quantities than expected, unused pre-printed
labels can be left on the shelf.
On-demand printing lets you produce the required quantity
closer to the point of use, then update the design for
the next batch.
- Print smaller quantities for specialist varieties
- Update artwork and product information between runs
- Reduce the number of pre-printed designs held in stock
- Create replacement labels when required
- Support different customers without changing your core branding
Outdoor labels need more than a good print
Watering, condensation, sunlight, handling and temperature
changes can all affect a horticultural label. The face
material, print coating and adhesive need to suit the
application together.
Use compatible inkjet label media and test samples on
the actual pot, tray or packaging. Textured plastic,
damp surfaces and exposure to compost or fertilisers
may need particular attention.
Need rigid plant stakes or loop-lock tags?
These require a separate compatibility check. Standard
horticultural tags are not automatically suitable for
an Epson ColorWorks roll-fed label printer.
Build the setup around your labels
Tek Direkt can help you assess an Epson ColorWorks
printer and suitable media for your application.
Start with the format you need and how the label will
be used.
1. Size & layout
Tell us your label dimensions and what needs to
fit on the design, including images, care
information and barcodes.
2. Quantities & workflow
Estimate your normal batch sizes, daily print
volume and seasonal peaks. Include how you
currently prepare your label data.
3. Surface & exposure
Show us what the label will stick to, how long
it needs to last and whether it will be used
indoors, under cover or outdoors.
Plant nursery label printing FAQs
Can I print plant photos and care instructions?
A colour label layout can include images, text and
care icons. Allow enough space for readable type
and use suitable image files so the finished
label remains clear at its actual size.
Can the labels be used outdoors?
Suitability depends on the printer, ink, media,
adhesive and exposure conditions. Tell us the
intended environment and expected lifespan so
a combination can be assessed and sample-tested.
Will labels stick to plastic plant pots?
That depends on the plastic, surface texture,
cleanliness and application conditions. Test the
proposed adhesive on your actual pots, including
the watering and handling they will experience.
Can I include barcodes or QR codes?
These can be included through suitable label
software. Check code size, contrast and scanning
performance on the finished label, especially
when it is applied to a curved pot.
Can I print directly onto seed packets or plant stakes?
This application focuses on compatible label media
for applying to products and packaging. Do not
assume finished packets, rigid stakes or existing
tag stock can be fed through the printer. Share
a sample of your required format for assessment.
Can I use information from my existing stock system?
The workflow depends on your software, export
options and label-design tools. Tell us which
system you use and how you currently store
variety names, product codes and other label data.
Send us a label. Tell us where it needs to last.
Email a current design or photo, the label dimensions
and your approximate quantities. Include details of
the pot, tray or packaging and any outdoor exposure.
We'll help you assess a suitable printer and media
combination for your nursery or growing business.
